Paul Munson started his career
with bronze sculpture in
Detroit. Paul acquired his BFA
in Detroit and started working
at a large commercial iron
foundry, where he learned the
delicate art of pouring iron
into molds, as well as being
mentored by sculptor Julius
Schmidt.
By the 1970’s, Paul received his
MFA from the Virginia
Commonwealth University and was
the subject of a PBS documentary
entitled, “Paul Munson pouring”
about his production of 36 foot
long aluminum sculptures. He
then moved on to more natural
materials, specifically the
Honeysuckle vine.
Paul has appeared in “Art Forum”
magazine and his work can be
found in places like the
Southeastern Center for
Contemporary Art in
Winston-Salem, North Carolina
and in the National Museum of
American Art at the Smithsonian
Institution in Washington, D.C.
As of 2006, Paul is working in
the Boston foundry of sculptor
David Phillips, pouring and
building up to 14 pieces. Now,
Paul Munson’s work can be
enjoyed by the Andres Institute.
Special
Thanks to Eric Doberstein and
